June Gover speaks of having her beloved husband’s ashes scattered in various places which he loved, in addition to storing them in a niche in a west Edmonton cemetery. She feels she could not have done this if she had him buried.
Economy is another advantage of cremation. Funeral director Douglas Overend said funerals can cost upwards of $10,000 with an expensive coffin and for that reason, nearly 60 per cent of deaths in Alberta now involve cremation, for as low as $3,000.
Well, folks, you can get a simple, yet dignified, funeral for only $950 and cremation for $635 if you are a member of the Calgary Co-operative Memorial Society.
A lifetime membership is only $20. I buried both of my dear parents who were CCMS members and the cost for each was under $1,000 for impeccable service through McInnis and Holloway.
There is an alternative to the high cost of dying. It is to become a member of either CCMS or one of the many other memorial societies in Canada and the U.S.
