We Welcome Volunteers on our Board and Committees

We have eight board committees with opportunities for members to volunteer in different capacities and on different projects. Whether you have a skill in a particular area or you want to learn something new, we would love your help.

Most of our meetings take place using Zoom. Members from across Alberta are welcome. To learn more, please contact our director Mark Farris who chairs our Board Capacity Committee, or phone our office at 1-403-248-2044 / 1-800-566-9959.

Believe it or not we have fun on our board of directors. It is a great way to give back to your community while using your skills and knowledge to benefit others. The board typically meets 10 times per year. Committee meetings are also held 4-6 times per year. While we are a volunteer board, we pay for some training costs and travel costs outside your main city or town of residence. All board meetings are held online using Zoom. They are about two hours long.

Before joining the board, you will be given the opportunity to meet with a director to learn more about our work. Next you'll be invited to attend a board meeting so you can see first hand if the role and your personality is a good fit for our team.
In addition to the qualifications required under the Cooperatives Act of Alberta, directors must have a membership in the CMS, be committed to our mission and strategic direction, be willing to commit the time required, assume responsibilities needed to manage the cooperative effectively and be open to learning.

An ideal candidate for board membership will have some experience in one of the following areas:
  • Finance, Accounting and Audit
  • Legal and Governance
  • Marketing, Social Media and Member Engagement
  • Writing and Editing

Board Term
Board Director Terms are for three (3) years to a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms.

How to apply
Interested candidates should contact Mark Farris, Chair of the Board Capacity Committee at markfarris30@gmail.com or (403) 554-4747.

 Thank you for your interest.

The Cooperative Memorial Society acknowledges that what we commonly refer to as Alberta is the traditional ancestral territory of diverse Indigenous populations, including Treaty 6, 7, and 8 lands. We deeply respect the Blackfoot Confederacy, Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, Tsuu T’ina Nation, and the Métis People of Alberta, along with the Métis Settlements and Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
We express gratitude to the Indigenous peoples who have nurtured and protected these lands for generations, both in the past and present. Our acknowledgment is a gesture of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose ancestral lands we inhabit or visit.
